About Sarah

A piece of art from your memories

Ribbon count

Regular – minimum of 40-50 ribbons are needed.

Large – minimum of 60-70 ribbons are needed

Each person’s ribbon collections are different. If there are quite a few longer streamers (ex: champions/reserves) then fewer are needed. If you have mostly class ribbons then more are needed. The more ribbons you send the more I can just use the printed streamers, thus using more "memory" pieces. The fewer ribbons the more I will have to use the solid ribbons. Either way makes for a beautiful quilt! Do NOT worry if you don’t have longer ribbons! Some spots NEED shorter pieces and in the longer spots I can piece together ribbons. If you have MORE than needed it’s great to send them. ALL UNUSED RIBBONS ARE RETURNED!

Colors

My design works best with a minimum of four colors. First through fourth look great (blue, red, yellow and white). If you have other colors you want included that’s fine! Some of your best memories can be from a sixth place! If you have plenty of top placings don’t send the lower ones unless they are of particular importance and need to be included.

***
If there are important ribbons that you want to make sure I use please bag them separately in the box and label it.

Shipping

You do not have to iron the ribbons before you ship them to me. They get tossed around in their travel so I do it on my end. Please try to dust them off and brush off and shavings or cobwebs, though! I do not clean them.

Please pack your ribbons in a sturdy box and tape it well. I have had a few arrive just about to break open! That would be a terrible thing! If you don’t have a good box at home it’s really worth it to buy one from a shipping store. The ribbons can’t be replace!

*** Please be sure to include your NAME, ADDRESS, PHONE, AND EMAIL (with payment) IN THE BOX! This is VERY IMPORTANT and often forgotten!

You can ship via any method you prefer. The most important thing is: DO NOT ship them with a signature required. I am rarely home when deliveries are made (I have a secure covered porch to keep them protected).

***All quilts are shipped back via UPS ground, no signature required unless otherwise requested.

Payment

Please pay by either personal check or money order, made out to:

Frequently Asked Questions

Are they backed?

No, they are not backed. This is for a few reasons. A) The time and material would make them cost prohibitive to a lot of people. B) They really are NOT comfy (think of an outdoor flag or sail) so not something you want to cuddle with. C) You cannot wash them so it’s best to keep them away from where they could have things spilled on them or pets on them. They look great hanging on a wall!

How long do they take?

They get IN LINE when they arrive are my house. I make the quilts in the order that they arrive. Some are bigger projects and take a while and some fall together much more quickly. On average they take about 2-3 weeks from when I start them. Keep in mind that I also have a full time job, a house to keep up and a horse that I take away to shows about once a month. I regret to keep people waiting and I do try to get them out as quickly as possible.

Can I transfer a photo onto one of the ribbon squares?

A lot of the quilts I make are in honor of a special horse or dog and the owner wants to show a picture of the animal. The quilts are quite busy on their own and a photo would be lost. My suggestion is to hang a nicely matted and framed photo right NEXT to the quilt. This way they complement each other. I have also used unprinted ribbons in the bottom section and had them professionally embroidered with something like:

In memory of

Dobbin

1990-2008

Do you need to wash and iron them before you send them?

If they are dirty and you want them used I would try to clean them as best you can. I do not wash them on my end. I do iron them, though, so that is not necessary for you to do. I do appreciate it if the ribbons are shipped free of dust and cobwebs J
